DonutSMP Halloween update (Oct 8, 2026): pumpkin-head zombies and skeletons now drop diamonds, iron and coal

On October 8, 2026, the newest thing DonutSMP players are farming is spooky. The server's Halloween update lets zombies and skeletons spawn wearing a pumpkin on their head, and those pumpkin-head mobs can drop extra loot: pumpkins, iron, coal and, at a low chance, diamonds.

Community clips mentioning the Halloween update started appearing around October 4, and by October 7 several players on YouTube and X were calling it the season's easiest money. Here is what the public footage actually shows, and what is still unconfirmed.

What the Halloween update adds

Based on public clips (not an official changelog):

  • Zombies and skeletons can now spawn with a carved pumpkin on their head.
  • Killing a pumpkin-head mob can drop pumpkins, iron and coal on top of its normal drops.
  • Diamonds are possible but rare, according to the creators testing it.
  • Normal drops still come through, so a grinder also collects rotten flesh, bones, arrows, gunpowder and redstone from the other mobs it catches.

We have not seen official drop rates, an end date, or whether the event is limited to certain regions. Treat any "per hour" number as one person's test, not a guarantee.

One creator's 10-minute test

In a clip posted on October 8 ("DonutSMP's Halloween Update Meta" by BrycenStreams on YouTube), the creator ran a two-layer mob grinder with an item sorter, went AFK for 10 minutes, then sold everything through /sell. The totals they reported on screen:

  • Diamonds: about $650,000
  • Iron: about $135,000
  • Pumpkins: about $127,000
  • Bones (crafted into bone meal first): about $50,000
  • Gunpowder: about $23,000
  • Coal: about $13,500
  • Redstone dust: about $7,000
  • Rotten flesh: about $1,600

Their total came to roughly $986,000 in 10 minutes, which they estimated as about $6 million per hour. They also said mob spawn rates were inconsistent during the test, so a single short run can overstate or understate what you will actually earn. The diamond line did most of the work, and diamonds are the rare drop, so your results will swing a lot from run to run.

How to try it without wasting your time

  1. Use what you already have. Any existing zombie or skeleton grinder (or a dark-room spawner area) will catch pumpkin-head mobs. You do not need a brand-new build to test the event.
  2. Add an item sorter. Splitting diamonds, iron, coal and pumpkins into their own chests makes it easy to see what actually dropped and to sell in bulk.
  3. Measure before you scale. Write down your start time, run for a fixed period, then check /sellhistory. Compare that with your usual farm before adding more layers.
  4. Craft bones into bone meal first if it sells better for you, like the creator did in the test.
  5. Sell while the event runs. If lots of players farm the same drops, prices for things like pumpkins can move. Check Orders and the Auction House before dumping everything into /sell.
  6. Stay safe while AFK. A busy grinder can draw attention. Hide your coords and split storage, as in our base security guide.

What we still don't know

  • How long the event lasts. Seasonal events usually end after Halloween, but no end date has been confirmed in public sources we checked.
  • Exact drop chances. Creators only describe diamonds as "low chance."
  • Whether /sell prices change. No public clip so far shows a change to base sell prices for the event drops.

We will update the /news hub if a clear end date or drop-rate info shows up in public clips.
