What are DonutSMP shards?

Shards are the secondary currency for the Shard Shop — premium tools, gear, and Shard Items. They are not DonutSMP Money. Money is the /bal balance that moves on /ah and /orders.

How do you earn shards now?

Every player gets 1 shard every 10 minutes of playtime. No Donut+ or Media rank is required. That is the current passive reward on the public wiki.

Do kills or the AFK Zone still give shards?

No. Those paths are removed history. The AFK Zone used to pay 1 shard per minute. Direct player kills used to pay 10 shards. Do not grind kills expecting shards.

Are shards the same as Money on /ah?

No. Playtime ticks shards. Farm stacks liquidate into Money on /ah or /orders. donutsmpexchange.com tops up Money, not shards.

Q: Can you still buy new spawners with shards?

No. A February 26, 2026 shop note listed spawners at 1,500 shards. A later update removed new spawner acquisition from the shop. Only existing spawners trade player-to-player.

On Sep 9, 2026, DonutSMP shards are still the premium shop currency — not kill loot and not Money. Playtime ticks them in; the Shard Shop spends them.

What shards are

Wiki shop list on the same page (confirm in-game; lists move): Shard Pickaxe, Axe, and Shovel at 3,000 shards each; Shard Potion of Haste at 6,000. What stopped

Kill rewards and the AFK Zone earning path are removed history. The old AFK Zone paid 1 shard per minute. Direct player kills paid 10 shards. Rank-specific “earn anywhere” for Donut+ and Media left with that system. Do not grind kills expecting shards.

Shards vs Money

Practical split: grind playtime if you want shards. Liquidate farm stacks on /ah or /orders if you want Money. After a wilderness /rtp start, those are still two different wallets.
