On October 16, 2026, there is no brand-new official DonutSMP patch note we can verify from public sources. Today’s desk note is a farm-builder explainer of the server limits that still apply: the creeper entity cap, the item-frame cap, and hopper speed, plus why the World Border Expansion (still TBA) is the date those notes hang the temporary pieces on.
We are not official DonutSMP staff. The numbers below come from the Big June Update wiki page (last updated Sep 6, 2026), the community updates archive, and the World Border Expansion wiki page (last updated Sep 7, 2026). Where those pages disagree, this note says so. It does not invent a live rate for October 16.

Two public pages describe the same June vanilla-features drop, and they agree on two farm numbers. The community archive’s June 16 “Vanilla Features Drop” says the creeper entity limit was doubled to 2,500 and the item frame limit was doubled to 1,500. The wiki’s June 15–16 section says the creeper entity limit was increased to 2,500 and the item-frame limit was increased to 1,500. The word “doubled” is the archive’s. Neither page prints the earlier cap, so this note does not calculate one.
| Limit | Community archive | DonutSMP wiki |
|---|---|---|
| Creeper entity limit | June 16 entry: doubled to 2,500. | June 15–16 section: increased to 2,500. |
| Item-frame limit | June 16 entry: doubled to 1,500. | June 15–16 section: increased to 1,500. |
| Hopper speed | June 16 entry: returned to vanilla until expansion. | June 15–16 section is silent. June 17–22 section: returned to the server’s non-vanilla configuration. |
The same June 16 archive entry also lists a restored vanilla pearl feature, and bedrock breaking with access below bedrock in the Overworld. The wiki’s June 15–16 section lists those too: a restored vanilla pearl feature, and bedrock breaking with access below bedrock in the Overworld. Those lines are part of the same drop. They are not a new October 16 change, and they do not tell you how many creepers your chunk will actually hold today.
The scope of the 2,500 and 1,500 figures is not written down on either page. This note does not guess “per player” or “server-wide.” Before a large mob farm or a long sorter wall, read the live limit in-game. The October 9 farm-meta note is about measured kelp, pearl, and bone-block tests. Those builds still have to fit inside whatever cap is live. This page does not reprint their rates.

Hopper speed is the line the sources do not share. The archive’s June 16 entry says hopper speeds returned to vanilla until expansion. The wiki’s June 15–16 section does not mention hoppers. Its June 17–22 section says hopper speeds returned to the server’s non-vanilla configuration, in the same stretch of notes as a temporary 3× multiplier on all /sell prices, stated to remain until the expansion. The archive’s June 17–18 entry says the same 3× on /sell prices until the border expansion, and it does not mention hoppers again.
The world-border page summarizes June 17 this way: the DonutSMP team stated that temporary hopper behavior and the 3× /sell values would remain until the expansion. That sentence does not say the hoppers were vanilla, and it does not give a transfer rate. No page checked for this note publishes items per second, a cooldown, or a “vanilla equals X” figure. This page will not invent one.
Practical reading for a storage line: design the farm so it still works if hopper speed is not the speed you built against. A sorter that only clears when hoppers stay exactly where they were on the day you tested it will stall if staff (or a later note) move that speed. Keep the item frames on that wall under the published 1,500 cap. Iron, bones, gunpowder, and kelp are the usual filter icons. The cap’s scope is still unstated, so leave margin rather than tiling up to 1,500 and hoping.
The June 3× on /sell is a separate sentence from the personal sell multiplier on the September 10 sell-multiplier explainer. That page describes a per-item multiplier from 1.0× up to 3.0×, checked with /sellmulti. The June notes describe a temporary multiplier on all /sell prices until the expansion. This October 16 page does not merge those two descriptions into one payout formula, and it does not retest /sell today. Compare a live /sell, a live Order, and a live Auction House ask before you dump a chest. The early bulk path that does not need a creeper cap is the September 14 cactus-and-bamboo ladder.
Farm builders sometimes ask about TNT. The public record is in conflict, so this page does not tell you that TNT duping works today.
Those lines cannot all be the live rule. Check in-game before you build a farm that depends on TNT duping. A wiki sentence from June is a historical note, not an October 16 permission.

The World Border Expansion page still lists the change as upcoming, date TBA. It says an exact release date and final dimensions should not be stated without a verifiable official announcement. Our October 12 status check found the same status. This October 16 note does not find a newer public ship date.
On the limits themselves, the border page’s June notes split in two. June 17: temporary hopper behavior and the 3× /sell values would remain until the expansion. June 29: the team described TNT support, vanilla-feature compatibility, entity capacity, and long-term chunk-generation stability as preparation, and stated that entity limits and simulation distance would not be reduced. The goal on that page is a stable expansion for the wider player base. The announcement, as the wiki summarizes it, gave no exact release date, final border size, or rollout schedule.
The Big June Update page’s June 29 section matches that prep story. It also records that /rtpqueue launched in Beta that day, with issues directed to the support portal, and that no exact expansion date was supplied in those notes. The page’s own historical-record line says later updates can supersede these details.
So the honest “what might change” list is narrow. Hopper behavior is the farm limit those notes explicitly park until the expansion. Entity limits were described, on June 29, as something that would not be reduced. The 2,500 and 1,500 figures can still be superseded later, because the wiki says later updates can supersede the June record. Plan a farm you can retune after the expansion. Do not spend a huge build on the assumption that today’s public numbers are a forever promise, and do not assume the expansion has a date. It is still TBA.
Mob farms that need cages sit on a different supply story. The September 16 spawners note covers closed supply: existing cages trade between players. An entity cap and a spawner supply rule are not the same limit. This page does not add a new spawner drop method.
| Step | Check | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stay under the published creeper number | Both public notes land on 2,500. Neither one says whether that cap is per player, per chunk, or server-wide, and neither one prints the earlier cap. A farm that needs more loaded creepers than the live cap allows will not get them. Check the live limit before you stack layers. |
| 2 | Count item frames before you tile a sorter hall | Both notes land on 1,500. They do not say whether that cap is per player, per chunk, or server-wide. Keep the sorter under the published number. A wall of frames for iron, bones, gunpowder, and kelp is the usual place a build hits this cap. |
| 3 | Do not lock the design to one hopper speed | The public record already disagrees about whether hoppers are vanilla or non-vanilla, and no source below publishes an items-per-second rate. Leave headroom so a slower or faster hopper still clears the line. A sorter that only works at one exact speed stalls when that speed moves. |
| 4 | Treat expansion as TBA, then re-check | Hopper behavior is the piece the June notes tie to the expansion window. The June 29 note said entity limits and simulation distance would not be reduced. The wiki also says later updates can supersede these details. Build something you can retune, and look at the live farm before a large session. |
