On Oct 17, 2026, there is no brand-new official DonutSMP event we can verify from public sources. Today’s desk note is a playtime calculator for the Shard Shop: how many hours of the published earning rate each listed item costs, and how many days that is at 4 hours of play a day.
We are not official DonutSMP staff. What shards are, and how they differ from Money, is already on the September 9 shards explainer and the shards guide. This page does not rewrite those. It only turns the current public shop list into hours. Prices can change. Open the live shop before you spend a balance.

Shard Earnings (last updated Sep 7, 2026) says every online player gets 1 shard every 10 minutes of playtime. Donut+, Media rank, and the old AFK Zone are not required. The same page says the rule was introduced in the Big June Update on June 17, 2026. A full hour at that rate is 60 ÷ 10 = 6 shards. A full 24-hour day, if every minute counts, is 144 shards.
| Eligible playtime | Shards at 1 per 10 minutes |
|---|---|
| 10 minutes | 1 |
| 1 hour | 6 |
| 4 hours (the day pace below) | 24 |
| 24 hours | 144 |
The server decides what counts as eligible playtime. A balance that does not move after 10 minutes means that session did not count, even if the wiki rate is still the published rule. Check the number on your account before you plan a 250-hour grind around it.
Three older methods are removed. Do not add them to the total. Shard Earnings lists them as history from the crate-era system: the AFK Zone at 1 shard per minute, 10 shards per direct player kill, and a Donut+ / Media rank passive perk that used to earn shards outside the AFK Zone. The current passive reward, on that page, is the same 1-per-10-minutes line for every player.

Prices below are the list on donutsmp.wiki/shards (last updated Sep 7, 2026). Hours are that price divided by 6. Days use a planning pace of 4 hours a day, which is 24 shards a day, then round to the nearest day when the result is not a whole number. That 4-hour day is a reading pace for this table. It is not a server rule. Open the live shop before you spend shards. A wiki row can be older than the menu.
| Item | Shards | Hours at 6/hour | Days at 4 hours/day | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bow or Crossbow | 500 each | ~83 h | ~21 days | Listed separately at the same price. |
| Netherite Hoe | 500 | ~83 h | ~21 days | 500 ÷ 6 is 83.3 hours. |
| Netherite Axe | 600 | 100 h | 25 days | 600 ÷ 6 and 600 ÷ 24 are exact. |
| Netherite Shovel | 800 | ~133 h | ~33 days | 800 ÷ 6 is 133.3 hours. |
| Netherite Pickaxe | 1,000 | ~167 h | ~42 days | Wiki lists silk touch or fortune. 1,000 ÷ 6 is 166.7 hours. |
| Netherite Sword | 1,500 | 250 h | ~63 days | 250 hours exactly. 1,500 ÷ 24 is 62.5 days, shown as ~63. |
| Netherite Spear | 1,500 | 250 h | ~63 days | Same shard price as the sword. |
| Each armor piece | 1,500 | 250 h | ~63 days | Leggings and boots lack Blast Protection. |
| Four-piece netherite armor | 6,000 | 1,000 h | 250 days | Four pieces at 1,500 each. The wiki does not list a bundle price. |
| Mace | 2,000 | ~333 h | ~83 days | Wiki lists density and wind burst. 2,000 ÷ 6 is 333.3 hours. |
| Shard Pickaxe, Axe, or Shovel | 3,000 each | 500 h | 125 days | Timed Shard Items. See the timer section. |
| Shard Potion of Haste | 6,000 | 1,000 h | 250 days | Same shard total as a four-piece armor set. Timed. |
A four-piece netherite set at 1,500 shards each is 6,000 shards: 1,000 hours, or 250 days at 4 hours a day. That is the same shard total as the Shard Potion of Haste. The wiki’s armor line also says leggings and boots lack Blast Protection. The pickaxe line says silk touch or fortune. The mace line says density and wind burst. Those are the published labels, not a promise that the item in your hand matches them. Read the live listing.

A planning tip, using only what the public wiki already prints: gear you keep is usually the better spend than an item that expires. Amethyst Items (last updated Sep 7, 2026) documents a self-destruction timer on Shard Items that begins at one day, and a Shard Potion of Haste that grants Haste II for 24 hours. The same page says to verify the timer on the exact item, because availability and timer behavior can change. Shard Earnings tells readers to check the live item, enchantments, timer, and price before purchasing. Buy a shard pickaxe, axe, shovel, or Haste potion for a session long enough to use it. The September 21 shard-items note covers what those tools do. This page does not repeat that write-up.
The Shards page lists netherite shop gear without that self-destruct line. Treat the lore on the live item as the check. This calculator does not invent a durability number the wiki does not print.
Spawners are not a current shop row. The Shards page says a February 26, 2026 note set spawner prices at 1,500 shards, and that a later update removed new spawner acquisition from the shop. Existing spawners only trade between players. The September 16 spawners note is the longer supply story. Do not budget 1,500 shards for a fresh cage from the shop.
Checked on Oct 17, 2026: donutsmp.wiki/wiki/shards redirects to donutsmp.wiki/shards. That page, last updated Sep 7, 2026, matches Shard Earnings. It says every player receives 1 shard every 10 minutes. It does not currently say shards cannot be earned in-game. If a cached copy of an older shards page still says that, treat the cache as stale.
A different page does still say the opposite. The DonutSMP Economy, also last updated Sep 7, 2026, says shards can no longer be earned through normal gameplay and are obtained from the official store instead. Shard Earnings, stamped the same day, says 1 shard every 10 minutes for every online player, and also lists the official store as a separate real-money source. This desk does not sell shards. Those two wiki sentences cannot both be the live rule.
The practical check is short. Note your shard balance, play for 10 minutes, and look again. A gain of 1 matches the Shard Earnings page. A gain of 0 means that time did not count, or that the economy-page sentence is the one the server is using. Either result beats arguing from a September stamp.
