DonutSMP new player mistakes (Nov 2, 2026): 10 things that cost you money in week one

Nov 2, 2026: the ten most common beginner mistakes on DonutSMP, from accepting random /tpa requests and trusting "free money" Discords to dumping loot on /sell at the wrong time. A short fix for each, with links to our deeper guides.

Why this list (Nov 2, 2026)

There was no big official DonutSMP change this weekend, so today's piece is a practical one. Most new players don't lose their first millions to PvP. They lose them to a handful of avoidable habits. Here are the ten we see most often in public clips, threads and our own past coverage, each with a quick fix.

1. Accepting /tpa requests from strangers

A teleport request is the easiest way into a trap or a kill box. Only accept from people you actually know, and never right after a "come see my farm" DM. Deeper read: DonutSMP TPA traps & base security (Sep 19, 2026): accept requests carefully

2. Building your base where you landed

Spawn is gone, and random teleports drop many players into the same busy areas. Move well away before you build, keep the coordinates to yourself, and don't stream or screenshot them. Deeper read: DonutSMP base security (Sep 26, 2026): no raid-proof design — hide coords and split storage

3. Typing a Microsoft code into a "verify" bot

No legit Discord asks for your Microsoft email and a code. That's a sign-in attempt on your account. Deeper read: DonutSMP fake "verification" Discord scams (Oct 31, 2026): never share a Microsoft code

4. Trusting "money per invite" or giveaway servers

If a server pays you to invite friends or wants you to log in to claim a prize, assume it's farming accounts. Deeper read: DonutSMP 'money per invite' Discord offers (Oct 29, 2026): what to check before you join

5. Trading without checking the items

Hover every item, check enchants and counts, and never send first to someone you can't verify. Deeper read: DonutSMP trading checklist (Oct 3, 2026): verify items before you accept

6. Selling everything through /sell

/sell is instant but not always the best price. Compare it with the auction house and with orders before you dump a full inventory. Deeper reads: DonutSMP sell multiplier explained (Sep 10, 2026): when /sell beats /ah and DonutSMP Auction House vs Orders: which pays more? (Sep 7, 2026)

7. Pricing blind on the auction house

Look at what similar items actually sell for before you list, or you'll undercut yourself or never sell. Deeper read: DonutSMP price check guide (Oct 5, 2026): how to value an item before you sell

8. Skipping a simple first farm

A small, steady farm beats chasing one big score. Start with an easy one and upgrade as money comes in. Deeper read: DonutSMP early farm ladder (Sep 14, 2026): cactus and bamboo before spawners

9. Using client mods you haven't checked

Some mods are fine, others get you banned. Read the public rules before installing anything. Deeper reads: DonutSMP client mods & anti-cheat (Sep 23, 2026): what public rules actually ban and DonutSMP fair play FAQ (Oct 25, 2026): what can get your account banned, and how to stay safe

10. Keeping all your wealth as balance

Money on hand is easy to lose in one bad trade. Many experienced players keep part of it in useful items and gear. Deeper read: DonutSMP hard assets vs /bal (Sep 18, 2026): elytras, spawners, and net worth

Quick checklist

  • Only accept /tpa from people you know.
  • Build far from where you landed and keep coords private.
  • Never share a Microsoft code with anyone.
  • Check every item before you accept a trade.
  • Compare /sell, the auction house and orders before selling.
  • Start one easy farm, then scale.
